Classroom Information
Absences: All absences must be verified by a parent with a written note. Written notice must be given to the office within two school days if the absence is to be excused.
Allergies: Please note some students in our room may have allergies to peanuts.
Backpacks/Bus: Every student needs to bring their backpack to school every day. Name-tags have been given identifying how the students go home.
Please do not remove the tag. Please check your child’s backpack for notes and forms that are sent home. Please also check to see what your child is bringing to school. Sometimes our little ones like to bring toys to class that could be distracting to others. Remind them that toys and sentimental items should be kept at home.
When changing their backpack, remember to also make sure the new backpack has the tag for the year.
Per district policy, Kinder students cannot be picked up from the buses without a bus tag.
Birthdays: Students love sharing their birthdays with classmates. You are more than welcome to bring treats for the class to share and celebrate with your student. We celebrate birthdays during non-instructional time. The best time for our kindergarten students is during recess. If you need to bring something during class time, please leave it in the office or you can drop it off with your child. Note: School policy prohibits visitors from going outside during recess.
Change in Routine: If there is a change in your child’s normal routine, such as being picked up early or not going their usual way home, please let the school know with a written note or phone call before lunch. When you call, please make sure that you speak to someone in the front office. Leaving a voicemail does not guarantee that it will be heard in time. For safety reasons it is very important that we know where the children are headed after school. It is school policy that children must follow their normal after school procedure if they do not have a note. The more consistent we are with the routine, the better it will be for our little ones.
Clothing: Because we go outside all year long it is important that your child be dressed for the weather. Hats and mittens/gloves are a must when the temperature is cold. Please label all outerwear with names, especially sweaters. We stay inside when it rains and when the weather is too cold/hot for our Texas blood. :)
Extra clothing: All kinds of "accidents" happen. Spilled milk, paint on the clothes, or even bathroom accidents happen. No big deal. The best way for us to be prepared is for your child to have an extra set of clothes that they will keep in their cubby throughout the year.
Communication:
Dress Code:
Students must wear a uniform according to BCE policy.
Medicine: If your child needs prescription or over the counter medicine while they are in school, short or long term, please bring it to the office. The nurse will make sure it is administered at the proper time.
Perfumes/Colognes: I have asthma and struggle with allergies all year long. When students come to school with perfume/cologne, it makes it difficult for me to breathe when I am close to them. I always carry my inhaler with me but if we can keep our classroom fragrance-free, it would be huge help. It will also be beneficial for others who may suffer from allergies.
Snack: We have snack time in the morning. When we run out, I will send a note home asking to please send a bag of snacks to school. Please don’t buy individually wrapped bags. Often, it is too much snack for the kids and they end of throwing most of it away. Also, most of the students still need help opening the bags.
Having snack time is at the discretion of the teacher.
Suggested snack items:
Supplies: I will let you know when we are running low on crayons, glues, or other items. The Kindergarten teachers will usually send out a note mid year for replenishment of certain items.
Sweaters: I will do my best to help remind students to keep track of their sweaters. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the child to keep track of his/her jacket or sweater. We do have a lost and found when students leave things outside during recess, in the lunchroom, in the gym, etc.
Wednesday Folders: Wednesday folders go home on Wednesday. Students will need to return them on Thursday with a parent signature. The papers/flyers in the folders are for you to keep or throw away. Please look through them, they may contain important information about events that may be going on in the school or the happenings of the classroom.

Communication:
- Emails: I check my school email frequently throughout the day. This is the best form of communication for me.
- Notes: If you are sending a note to me via your child, please remind him/her before leaving home. Many notes have been forgotten at the bottom of a backpack without given a chance to make it to me.
- Voicemail: Our classroom phones go automatically to voicemail. I will normally check my voicemail before and after school. Please do not leave any “urgent” messages that I must receive before the end of the school day. Those calls should go to the front Office.
